B.S. Chemical Engineering, University of Colorado, 1987.
Ms. Outcalt began working at the National Institute of Standards and Technology as a chemical engineer in 1987. She is currently a member of the Experimental Properties of Fluids Group. At NIST, she has carried out fugacity measurements on binary systems containing hydrogen, and has assisted in the design, construction, and testing of a novel detector for gas chromatography.
Most recently she has been responsible for formulating standard reference equations of state used to predict the thermodynamic properties of alternative refrigerants, and assisted in the design, construction and operation of the coexisting density and vapor-liquid equilibrium apparatus that also measures surface tension. She is currently working on a unique state-of-the art liquid-liquid-vapor equilibrium apparatus and a small volume vapor-liquid equilibrium apparatus.
